The turkey is still waiting at home. The football games haven’t started yet. The big meal is still hours away.
But first?
You get outside.
You lace up your sneakers, grab your family or friends, head over to the FishHawk Turkey Trot and spend your morning surrounded by your neighbors.
You walk. You run. You laugh. You take way too many pictures. You see people you haven’t seen in months. You cheer for strangers. You cross the finish line, grab your medal and some water, check out the vendors, and realize…

In the beginning, my family slept in while I ran the Turkey Trot with my running group.
But somewhere along the way, our Thanksgiving morning tradition changed.
For the past several years, my husband and I have walked the Turkey Trot together.
*We chat with friends and neighbors along the way, stop for pictures, enjoy the atmosphere, take in all the fun around the race and just…enjoy being part of our community.
*And that’s what I think makes the FishHawk Turkey Trot so special.
You don’t have to be a serious runner.
You don’t even have to be particularly fast. 😂
You can run the 5K or 10K, take the untimed 5K, bring the family for the 1-mile Fun Run or let the kids (and kids at heart!) tackle the 250-yard Mini-Run.
There really is a place for everyone.
And when you finish, you can take that happy, slightly tired, Thanksgiving-morning feeling home with you.
For us, that usually means meeting up with neighbors afterward for a quick brunch – just enough time to relax, laugh and be thankful before everyone heads off to their family celebrations, food, football and whatever else Thanksgiving brings.
And then, when the day starts winding down…
✨ FishHawk’s holiday magic begins. The neighborhood lights come on, and the evening brings FishHawk Ranch’s spectacular holiday tradition at Paloma Glade, often complete with Santa and an incredible light show.
One morning.
One neighborhood.
One day filled with traditions.
That sounds like a pretty great Thanksgiving to us.
